(the current seal)
We respect the history behind the seal, and its profound place in UW-Madison’s history, however we submit that the seal is, in fact, horribly ugly, bland, cycloptic (Cyclops-like), and monochrome.
The seal is the representative symbol of the university.
All students, alumni, faculty, and friends of UW-Madison, who feel a connection with the university, should have the opportunity to use the Seal to represent their connection to, and pride for the University of Wisconsin -Madison.
The current seal, of which few students are actually aware, isn’t the symbol it should be.
Fans are forced to use the Athletic ‘Motion W’ logo which places undue focus of this research university on athletics. Otherwise, fans are forced to use the ‘scroll W’ logo, which doesn’t hold the symbolic value as the official school seal.
This university deserves a seal that represents the high aesthetic standards we hold at this university.
One that doesn’t creep people out.
Moreover, we deserve a seal that we can be proud of for our entire lives.

-New Seal, For Real.
-------------------------------------------
Note: It is important to mention, however, that at this time we're not submitting an alternative seal design.
We're raising awareness and asking community members to consider what they would want to see in a revised seal.
As interest continues to grow, our current plans may change. But right now, we plan to begin taking submissions for new designs by the end of the semester. And then using online surveys, narrow the list of potential replacements. We then hope to submit a group of finalists to the Board of Regents, and work with them to pick a reasonable alternative to the current seal.
